Indoor Track Recap
March 5, 2018
The Indoor Track teams have endured a long four months of training and competition which has led them to a strong championship season. Whether it be running through the snow or the halls of the primary school, our track-letes have pushed themselves to many fast finishes and sectional titles.
Senior Nico Bellavia has had one of the most successful seasons despite an early season injury. Bellavia finished first at the Section V Class A Championships in the 600m run with a time of 1:20.67, breaking his own school record. Bellavia also finished on top at the Section V State Qualifiers advancing to the state meet with the fastest 600m time in New York. At the NYSPHSAA Indoor Track and Field Championship, Bellavia finished second behind senior Jaquil Baxter of Edison Tech. Bellavia again broke his school record at the state meet with a time of 1:20.65.
After a strong cross country season, sophomore Paige Lind decided to join the indoor track team for her first year. Lind also saw big success in the 600m run, in addition to her anchor leg on the Girl’s 4x400m relay. Lind finished third place at the Section V Class A Championships in the 600m with a time of 1:40.47. At the Section V State Qualifiers, Lind finished third again with a time of 1:39.87, breaking the school record set last year by Erika Tillotson. Lind advanced to states in the 600m leg of the Intersectional Relay.
The Girl’s 4x400m relay took first at the Section V Class A Championships with a time of 4:16.02. The team was led by senior Payton Elliot, junior Sarah Urban, sophomore Grace Kitterman, and sophomore Paige Lind.
The Boy’s 4x800m relay has dominated Section V all season at the sectional and state qualifier meets. Led by seniors Nico Bellavia and Hunter Braun, and juniors Connor Preston and Conrad Bremer, championship season was filled with first place finishes. The team finished first at both the Section V Class A Championship and the Section V State Qualifier. At the NYSPHSAA Indoor Track Championships, the team finished 8th place with a time of 8:02.28, breaking the indoor school record.
