In recent years, high school rappers have started to gain more popularity and it seems that more and more are emerging. With the use of social media platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and SoundCloud it has given many a chance to share their work by acting as an outlet for young artists allowing them to share their music to the world and hopefully gain more of an audience.
Over the years rap music has evolved more and more, and with the minds of high school students they are able to use their creativity and their own personal experiences from their own personal struggles to more social problems in order to make new forms of rap.
We all know who NLE choppa is but why don’t we know about JYungen? In the busy halls of Victor Senior High, a new star has been on the rise: Joe Ciroula, also known as JYungen. It seems as if Joe’s always wanted to be a rapper. As early as 3rd grade Joe and his friends began playing around with various beats and lyrics creating songs for fun, never imagining that his music would eventually become an important factor in his life.
In the past he would repeatedly try to rap but never record thinking there was no future in this career path for him. But once something flipped he started to create his own songs and produce them on SoundCloud and Apple Music while also promoting his music on his social media accounts.
Like many rappers, JYungen gathers inspiration from others. For him, The Kid LAROI’S ability to put emotion into his singing while also blending rap, pop, and R&B together to create beautiful flowing songs has become a huge inspiration. He also admires Juice WRLD’s smooth flow, having his words seeming to always come naturally. and from the inspiration of his overall favorite artist Dro Kenji, for his unique style and sound.
When it comes down to making the songs themselves it takes more effort than you think it would. With only spending 2-3 hours a week on his rap life he is still able to produce great songs. For JYungen he starts off with a beat, rather finding one from youtube or other various places online, next he tries to rap to the beat, using lyrics that come naturally to him, and once he hits a roadblock he stops to take a break and finishes it another day giving himself time to plan things out, and create more lyrics for his songs. Once he pushes through a roadblock and everything starts to flow together, it’s barbecue chicken from there.
