Due to the recent seasons of the Victor Varsity Football team and the Victor Junior Varsity Football team, the honor of playing on Corbit Field on Friday nights will be given to the JV team. The Varsity games will be moved to Saturday mornings and their home games will be played on the JV practice field. This decision is now known as the “JV Corbit takeover” or “JVCT”.
The famous saying “no walking on Corbit”, used heavily by former Coach Condon, seems to have been taken to heart by the JV program, but not the Varsity program. This was the main motivator for the decision.
Surprisingly, this decision was made by the team’s coaches and players. One of the coaches even stated that he’ll make the team forfeit all games if the team continues to play on Corbit field. He refuses to have the team play on “such a coveted field that the team doesn’t deserve to play on.” He went on to say “The JV players don’t walk like my players on Varsity, they haul a**”

How were the Varsity players okay with this change happening? Well, the Varsity and JV players from this past season decided that whoever wins in a scrimmage shall have the right to play on Corbit. There were 7 referees, none of whom knew about Victor prior to the scrimmage, and each team had all their coaches to assist them in this battle. It was a hard battle for both teams, surprisingly. To prevent any further embarrassment, JV won 52-3.
The most surprising part about this scrimmage was a 94-yard touchdown rushing touchdown from JV’s only Running Back, Luke Johnson, and an 8th grader. This was also the only time JV was behind their own 45 yard line.
The Varsity players only agreed to the JVCT if no one knew about the scrimmage.
A freshman JV player from this past season told me, “We have taken the phrase to heart. Everywhere we are and in everything we do, we do it at 110 percent. ‘No walking on Corbit’ isn’t just about not walking on Corbit field, it’s about life.” One of the most impactful leaders on the JV team, Caden Renkert added, “It means to not take the lazy and easy way of life, and I feel as a team we’ve accomplished that.”
This saying seems to have such a deep meaning to the coaches and players that it convinced them to switch not only who plays under the lights on Fridays, but also the place the Varsity team will play home games.
Following these decisions, more actions will take place. A few include:
- All equipment will not be used by the Varsity team
- The Varsity team’s locker room will be inaccessible to all Varsity players or coaches
- The Varsity team will be able to only use the gym lockers for their locker room needs, not the former JV locker room
- The JV team will have access to all prior Varsity locker room items and the locker room itself
- All Varsity players must pay for at least 1 JV player’s dinner per week
Many more actions will be taking place, please visit this website for more information if desired.
