As we all know when you walk into Victor Senior High School at 7:40 you see multiple people carrying a caffeinated drink to make them more energized throughout the school day. We know there are multiple caffeinated drink places around our town including Bleu Dog, Level Up, Starbucks, and Dunkin, as well as people bringing their own drinks from home like Alani Nu and the known Celsius.
Moving through the rest of the year and into the school year, Dr. Terranova put an executive order on banning caffeinated drinks on Victor Schools campus. In the words of Dr. Terranova, he states “Over the last few years we have seen a deficit in students learning with these caffeinated drinks. As I did my these effects of caffeinated drinks are not would we like to empower in a students body and learning abilities”. Some of these side effects include Anxiety, headaches, Insomnia, dizziness, and fast heart rate. All these are affecting our students’ learning on a daily basis. More than 60% of students are affected by these side effects around the world.
Victor schools administration is worried about the lack of students awake. The new rule for our school is ONLY caffeine pills to wake you up in the morning. If you are caught sleeping on your desk or zombing in the hallway, a teacher will be able to squirt you with a water gun to wake you up, and you will be sent to the principal’s office. If you are wearing floaties or swim goggles you will not be able to get squirted. You will be saved and not be sent to the principal’s office.
Due to this change there will also be a change in the variety of drinks in the Snackbar at our high school. We will be getting rid of the ICE caffeinated drink and the new Tru drink. Instead the Senior High snack bar will be getting a tomato juice uncaffeinated drink for our students to purchase during their lunches.
We talked to some students and got their opinions on this change in our school. Emma Clark, a senior, states that “I think this is so ridiculous, and so stupid. As a student who drinks these caffeinated drinks I believe these help our learning, so I am not sure where Dr. Terranova heard all of that false information”.
Another student, Isabella Smith, a sophomore, said “ I am actually glad these drinks are getting banned at our school since they have been affecting our students and our school environment. This will be a huge money saver for us. I am happy to see where this takes our school in the future of our learning”.
The consequences if seen with a caffeinated drink you will not be able to listen to your music during school hours, if you continue to break this new rule you will be suspended for 3 days. Victor Schools goal of this is to make our school a better environment for the student body.
