As of now every student at Victor High School has a PE class in their schedule at least once a week. Right now we are transitioning into a new selection of units for the Springtime. Since our weather outside has been very bipolar in Victor this time of year the PE department has decided we are staying inside for our Spring units for PE.
The new inside units for this spring include: line dancing, fitness running, circus arts, and another water unit, which is diving discovery. The pacer test will also be coming to the high school. Line dancing is going to be where you will be dancing with a partner to patterns of steps to western music. Fitness running will be running around the track and on the football field the whole period of PE class. Our circus arts unit will include physical discipline of juggling, aerobatics, and acting like a clown. Lastly, discovery diving will be diving into the pool trying to find items in the deep end. You will also need to learn the diving techniques and our PE teaching will be scoring your dive and that will be your grade in SchoolTool. ALL OF THESE UNITS WILL BE REQUIRED.
The PE department has decided to cut off some units and they will not be a part of the curriculum at phys ed anymore going on into the Spring of this year and years forward. The PE department has announced there will be no more flag football, ice skating, badminton, and yoga, and will be replaced with the new units listed above.
The PE department has expressed that the units we have now are not giving our students enough physical activity during the hour and a half. Mr. Sousa has stated “We have seen our students less active during their PE classes, and more on their phone. Due to these new changes we will be making each student participate in PE or you will have a school suspension”.
The State has described the Regents needed for Physical Education starting in the 2025-2026 school year.
