Warning: The following article features topics surrounding sexual abuse
When we look back at things that are nostalgic to us from our childhood, one of the biggest things is T.V. We often found ourselves in the living room watching Disney Channel, Cartoon Network, and Nickelodeon to name a few. While these shows were super fun to watch, it wasn’t necessarily fun for the network to film as there have been multiple reports of a hostile work environment on numerous sets assosciated with Nickelodeon, particularly shows directed by Dan Schneider, and were exposed to the public through the hit series Queit On Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV which is streaming on HBO Max and Hulu.
If you’re not familiar with Dan Schnieder here is a quick rundown:
He was an Executive Producer on the Nickelodeon show All That and was promoted to director which then allowed him to create shows such as The Amanda Show, Drake and Josh, iCarly,

Zoey101, Victorius, Henry Danger, and Game Shakers and he also played the role of the General Manager, Mr. Baily, of the movie GoodBurger.
These shows were icons that helped define the 90’s through 2000’s. Even though I wasn’t alive during that particular era, I still watched a bunch of these shows growing up and I remember exactly when Henry Danger and Game Shakers came out because they were such a staple of my childhood growing up and for a long time I looked up to Dan Schnieder because of the fact that he made some of my favorite shows of all time so when I saw that there was some negative news publicized about him, I was doubtful at first however once I looked into the specifics of the allegations, I couldn’t turn back.
There were numerous allegations that workers were very mistreated on the sets (especially female writers) and there were multiple accusations of child actors being sexually abused by producers both on and off set. In fact, star of the hit series Drake and Josh Drake Bell talked about his experiences publicly for the very first time during this docuseries.
In my opinion, this series was produced phenomenally as they featured tons of people who had experiences on set with the Schneider production team as well as obtaining court documents that had never been seen before. One of the things I found most shocking was that one of the predators that went to trial, for abusing Drake Bell persistently, had tons of letters of support from multiple celebrities such as Taran Killam and Alan Thicke who would later comment that they were not informed of the degree of the crimes that the producer committed.

I found myself having to pause the episodes on numerous occasions out of pure shock because of some of the things that these producers had done to these child actors leaving many of them scarred for life.
A perfect example of this is Amanda Bynes who was the star of The Amanda Show which was essentially Saturday Night Live, who has since left acting and turned to drugs because of the high standards she was held to during her childhood.
Overall I would highly recommend watching this series as it was very interesting and eye opening however I will never be able to watch any of the previously mentioned through the same lens again so if you’re willing to ruin iCarly for you for the rest of your life, go ahead but don’t say I didn’t warn you.
