Many of you may follow or have seen Victor’s decision page on Instagram. If you aren’t familiar with this page, it is a page where high school seniors at Victor send in their plans for next year. The creator of the account then puts it all together and posts it for others to see. However, as May 1st was quickly approaching, the posts have been ramping up. Do you ever wonder what’s going on behind the scenes? Who makes these posts, and how much time does it take?
To answer these questions, I decided to interview Tessa Peone, the creator of the Victor 2025 decision account. Tessa is headed to SUNY ESF next year and plans on majoring in wildlife sciences.
Tessa explained that she is not a part of the student council, therefore, she at first didn’t think she would be able to run the account. However, she was very interested, so she decided to DM the Victor 2024 decisions page last year. Erin Malone, a fellow journalism student, ran last year’s account and explained to her that you didn’t need a specific role in order to run this account. Given this information, Tessa decided to just go for it and make the account. She made the account in early August to start growing the page’s following, and from there, the account took off.
As May 1st approached, the posts would come out almost every hour. So I asked Tessa what it was like to make all these posts and how much time it took. She explained that she uses a Canva preset design, so all she needs to do is insert the pictures. She also explained that when people go to the same school, it makes things super easy because all she has to do is replace the pictures and the major. She says it takes her about 2 minutes a post.
Finally, I asked her if she has a junior in mind who should do the decisions page next year. She said, “Honestly, anyone can do it, as long as you have a template, you can do it”. Tessa loves running the decisions account and says she would definitely suggest it to people.
Overall, if you’re a senior this year, be sure to appreciate the work Tessa does, and if you see her around, say hi or send her a quick thank you. Rising seniors, Tessa is a great person to talk to if you’re interested in running next year’s account.
