Alone At Prom album review

Sean Garcia Perez, Staff Writer

Alone at Prom is a great album to have a disco ball.

to. It brings you back to the ’80s with a modern switch on the beats. This was Tory Lanez’s third release of 2021. Alone at Prom 80’s theme, crooning ballads of broken hearts. The album gives off different vibes as you progress listening in the album. “Enchanted Waterfall starts off soft and melodic and each song has its own unique 80’s beat. Some of the songs take inspiration from past songs from artists like Michael Jackson and The Weeknd which sets a romantic but depressed mood that makes you drown yourself in your thoughts.

Tory Lanez does a great switch between the beats in the album. At the beginning of the album, it starts slow and mellow but as you keep listening the beats change. “The Color Violet” is the best example of that. The previous song “Midnight’s Interlude” is a little faster pace but repetitive which makes the flip to “The Color Violet” really good.” You still get the grooving disco beat with some funky 808s that make you just groove and bop your head the whole song from start to finish. There is one verse in this song that is my favorite out of any song on the album.  “She took my heart speeding car going ninety in the rain she took my heart and filled it with nothing but pain.” That verse kinda summarizes the mood of the album until some of the later songs. This song is what made the album go BOOM.

The later songs in the album like “Hurt From Mercury” and “Last Kiss of Nebulon” tie up the album in a perfect way. Throughout the whole album, each song has its depressing parts but finally, in the end, you can see the passion. These songs still have funky and groovy beats that make you wear sunglasses at night.
