The Victor Wrestling team recently had sectionals this past Saturday, where nine wrestlers placed top six overall and will have a chance to compete at Super Sectionals next weekend and possibly qualify for States.

Victor wrestlers competed in dozens of matches, partaking in a single elimination bracket to determine who would move on to next weekend, where wrestlers from all classes and all over Section V will battle it out for the few spots open at States.

At the end of the day nine of Victor’s best were victorious. Gabe Daiello, Angelo Attardi, Ty Rader, Shane Kieslewski, and Jamison Riley all took fourth place while Drew Aparo took fifth, and Mason Naple and Jameson Ricigliano placed sixth.

Sam Ricci on the podium after winning Saturday

Sam Ricci stole the spotlight, being crowned Class A1 Sectional Champion for the one hundred and sixty pound division, for the first time in his wrestling career.

Ricci, a senior, who’s been on the varsity team since seventh grade, was met with thunderous applause and excitement after pinning his opponent. He credits his 13-0 finish to relying on “doing what he’s done his entire life.”

While spending time celebrating with friends and family, the sectional champion isn’t letting the victory get to his head, with Super Sectionals next weekend and the competition getting better, he said he’s “just ready for the next tournament.”

The Blue Devils will be competing Saturday at SUNY Brockport, if you haven’t caught them yet this season, consider doing so!
