It’s horror movie season and I’m here to give you the breakdown on the best movies to watch on the top streaming platforms: Netflix, Hulu, Max and Prime. Each movie is rated on a 1-5 scale:
Iconic: great older flics
1: simple movie, easy to watch with a group
2: a little scarier, but you can go to bed peacefully afterwards
3: trend with caution
4: definitely stays in your mind after a couple days
5: nightmare level fuel
Netflix:
- Get Out(4)
- Us(5)
- Black Mirror(4.5)
- The Strangers(4)
- The Babysitter and The Babysitter: Killer Queen(1.5)
- The Ritual(4)
- I see you(3)
- There’s Someone In Your House(1.5)
- Incantation(10)
- Don’t Worry Darling(2.5)
The best to watch with bigger groups where you don’t have to fully understand what’s going on but can still enjoy are: The babysitter franchise and “There’s someone in your house”. All the others are more suited for you and another person or if you’re a brave soldier, by yourself. Lastly, my personal favorite that I highly recommend is “Us”.
Hulu:
- Barbarian(4)
- The Village(4)
- Scary Stories to Tell in The Dark(2.5)
- The Menu(3)
- Doctor Sleep(2.5)
- Fresh(2.5)
- The Craft(Iconic)
- Alien(Iconic)
- The Babadook(3)
- Escape Room(2)
These movies could almost all be watched with a small group except for: “The Village”, “The Menu” and “Alien”. These are more slow burns and you will want to pay close attention to them. My personal favorite is “Barbarian”, I saw it in theaters and haven’t seen another movie like it.
Max:
This streaming app is a little tricky because it has a really impressive archive of iconic horror movies such as “Friday the 13th” “The Shining” “Poltergeist” and so much more. I highly suggest you go through this app and check all of them out yourself because there are too many iconic movies for me to list.
- All the iconic movies this app has to offer
- The Final Destination franchise(2)
- Hereditary(5)
- Insidious(2)
- You’re Next(2)
- Trick R’ Treat(1)
- The Descent(4)
- Cabin in The Woods(1.5)
- Silence of The Lamb(4)
- Scream(1)
This is an amazing collection of movies, the best to watch with a group are The final destination franchise, “Insidious”, “Trick R’ Treat”, “Cabin in The Woods” and of course “Scream”. The movie I highly recommend is “The Descent”, I cannot recommend it enough.
Prime:
- Smile(5)
- Nope(4)
- The Black Phone(4)
- As Above, so Below(5)
- Candyman, 2021(4)
- Train to Busan(5)
- Hell House llc(4.5)
- Megan(1)
- Cocaine Bear(1)
Amazon Prime definitely had the scariest selection out of the four, with that being said, they also had the silliest. “Cocaine Bear” and “Megan” are movies you put on to make fun of. As for the others, all of them are great recommendations to see how well you can handle horror movies. I specifically recommend “As Above, so Below” though being a lesser known horror movie that will scare you to death.
Good luck you brave soldiers and a happy spooky season to you all!
