Jurassic Park vs. Jurassic World remains controversial within the dinosaur nation. I think we can all agree that the Jurassic movies gave us all a look into the dinosaur era. From their well-cast actors to their amazing CGI dinosaurs, the Jurassic movies make our inner child happy, because who doesn’t love dinosaurs? 

The question is still staring us in the face like a T-Rex, is Jurassic World better than the original Jurassic Park movies? Well, that is what I am here for, to dive deep into the Jurassic age and find out what era was the best. 

World Rankings: 

According to Tomatometer, the original Jurassic Park (1993) movie leads the world ranking for best Jurassic movie, but right on its tail is Jurassic World (2015). It’s not until number 5 and 6 Jurassic World shows up again. Based on reviews Jurassic Park is better than Jurassic World. 

Student Ranking: 

While I have my own opinions about this topic that we will get to later, I decided to ask multiple classes, and post a poll, asking for their opinions. After getting a total of 33 opinions, it was very clear what era was the favorite. 27 people voted that the original Jurassic Park movies were better, while only 6 people preferred the Jurassic World series.  

Now it’s time for the movie details, the story lines, the graphics, the cast, and how much the movies made. 

Starting off with the original Jurassic Park, that left a giant dinosaur footprint on our society. According to Google, the original Jurassic Park has a total of 4.7 stars. Some of the audience reviews include “no other movies about humans and dinosaurs coexist made a much bigger impact than Stephan Speilberg’s ‘Jurassic Park’” claimed on of Jurassic Park fans after watching the film. 

Many others said things along the lines of this, even stating that Jurassic Park is  “the movie of our generation” referring to 90s kids. Not many movies about humans and dinosaurs have an impact on our world but Jurassic Park is one that has gone down in history and will always be a top pick for movie night in many houses around the world. 

According to Box Office Mojo, when the first Jurassic Movie came out it made $47,026,828 in 1993, with inflation it would convert to $99,920,130.75 in 2023. Jurassic Park has a lifetime gross of $357,067,947 which places it in 4th place for which movies made the most money. 

You would think that the original movie would be the one that makes the most money , but if you think about it, no one knew what to expect from this movie in 1993 whereas for all the others there were expectations to live up to. 

This explains why Jurassic World was the movie that made the most money out of all of them, Jurassic World made nearly

double of what Jurassic Park made. According to Box Office Mojo Jurassic world made $208,806,270 in 2015 when it was released and has a lifetime gross of $652,270,625. This was due to it being released 14 years after the last Jurassic Park movie came out which caused a spark of excitement for families as fathers and mothers were able to experience their childhood all over again with their kids.

Even though the Jurassic World movies made more money, everyone prefers the classics, except for me. My opinions on this series are different from others. I wasn’t able to say I grew up watching Jurassic Park but what I can say is I grew up watching Jurassic World.

 Yes, I do love the classic movies but there’s something about going and seeing a movie in the theaters and it gaining a place in your heart. I will watch any Jurassic movie when I get the chance but my go-to will always be Jurassic World.
