Season 4 of Yellowstone starts off with a bang. Full-blown domestic terrorism takes place against the Duttons in the season 3 finale and season 4 picks it right up.
We see the aftermath of this attack and the audience is left wondering about what truly happened. The most action seen in the Yellowstone series takes place in this season opener.
John is left badly wounded after getting shot multiple times. Rip races to find John and brings him on a mercy flight.
I was left nervously wondering if this was the end for John and if he was going to die, outside of the fact this was a new season and Paramount wasn’t about to kill off their main character.
A frustrated John Dutton is discharged after being in a medically induced coma for two months. Directly after returning home with a caregiver brought to the ranch, John is back to his true self, kicking her out and going out to ride on his horse.
Kayce, John’s son, tells John that he should not be riding around yet and it produces this funny exchange. “You can go home, sonny. I’ll come back when I’m Goddamn good and ready. And if I don’t, you just bury me where you find me.”
When Beth was at the hospital checking on her father, John, she met a young boy named Carter whose dad was dying. Carter shows up in a cop car at the Yellowstone ranch, he tells the cop the only person he knew was Beth. This boy who has no family or guidance in his life was caught stealing from a convenience store and when he was arrested he told the cop that Beth was the only person he viewed as his guardian.
Beth sees the eerie similar situation this boy has with her now fiance Rip when he was young. No family of his left behind, while seeking shelter and purpose. When John meets Carter he can find out his life story in just a brief exchange.
“Where’s your dad now? Polluting the dirt they buried him in. Shit. Just like you, huh? Yessir.”
Now for my opinion. I believe this start to season 4 brings the most exciting parts of the series into action.
I was left on the edge of my seat wondering how everything was going to play out. The big overarching question was surrounding Jamie and his relationship with his family, could he have been the one that put out the hit on the Duttons? This is what I was so intrigued about in these first few episodes of Season 4.
Overall I would totally recommend anyone to watch season 4 of Yellowstone. The series only continues to get better as time goes on.
