3 years ago, The Victor Voice Morning Show had its first April Fools’ episode where Robbie Miller informed the school about a new policy that included having every student download the “V-lock” app that would severely (and hilariously) punish students by wiping data or changing all downloaded music to Kidz Bop..
The Morning Show went even bigger the next time as they had made 8 entire morning show episodes all committing to the same bit that there are cults in the high school. However, when April rolled around there was no episode… Why is that?
To answer that question, we need to look at how the last episodes came to be. The V-Lock special was made after coming up with making a video version of one of the previous newspaper April Fools’ day headlines about school-tool having an update that allowed similar circumstances.
Last year, the April Fools’ episodes started when Scarlett Alread came up with the idea after thinking about how she felt the communities being so committed they felt like cults. A good percentage of students were spending their time making episodes for different communities in the school.
So what did happen to the episode this year? Well I can confirm that there was in fact an April Fools’ special that started development this year, but was canceled. It was not finished because of 3 big reasons.
- School wasn’t on April Fools’ day
Usually the April Fools’ day episode is aired on April 1st, but if it is not it’s the closest Friday. Unfortunately, April 1st wasn’t just on break but in the middle of it.
- Mr. Caughlin was out on paternity leave
The main teacher being in charge of the episodes was not present in the month of March, there was a total of one episode that aired in that month because of this.
- Senior Trip
The Senior Trip was a huge deal and most of the people who work on the episodes were seniors, they would not have time to make an episode on top of all the other problems.
While I was able to get detailed information about what ideas they had, I was told nothing about the progress made on this year’s episode because it was such a good idea. One of the ideas Tobin Iwankow thought of as an episode where Mr. Thering comes back as Principal, also with an idea of getting rid of senior privileges.
One idea that was agreed upon to be an amazing episode was an idea of a normal episode except the fact that all of the journalists are muppets. The idea could not go further because of how much work would have to be done in order to create the puppets, especially for a 5 minute episode at most.
While it is a bummer that this year’s episode never came to fruition, fortunately the ideas and talent of the people in Journalism continue to fuel the passion for next year’s April Fools’ Day episode.
