Last Friday, May 17th Mr. Cronmiller took his students who take his AP Environmental Science class to the Lilac Festival in the city of Rochester. Located in the beautiful Highland Park the festival takes place from May 10 to May 16 which is when the lilacs all around are in full bloom.
I have many memories from this festival from when I was a kid, my mom took my siblings and I a few times. I was excited to go back but it wasn’t the same as I remembered. Maybe due to me not being an adventurous kid anymore dulled the experience of the lilac festival but itwas not as much fun as I remembered it being.
The festival was still something to do if you had an extra day during your week. It was a sunny and warm day in Rochester, a perfect day to be outside with friends. They had tons of food trucks which were your average fair foods but one thing I tried that I really liked was the coffee from the Coffee and Cinnamon Bun truck.
My friends and I of course had to have some fried dough which you can never go wrong with. There were also fun things to do during the day to keep us all entertained. Including games to play which some people in my class took home some goldfish from. Others made their own charm bracelets from a jewelry tent.
I would’ve thought that there would be beautiful lilacs all around the festival but there were a lack of them. I walked around Highland Park across the street from the festival which had more lilacs and pretty flowers than any part of the festival.
So if you are looking to see the beautiful lilacs in bloom you might want to start across the street and then walk over to the festival when you start to get hungry to have a bite to eat or want to listen to some live music.
