Now more than ever, it’s very common to see people wearing graphic tee shirts. Most fall under the category of band tees. Now this gets music lovers like me wondering, do people listen to the bands they display on their clothes?
The bands I most often see on shirts are Nirvana, The Beatles, and Led Zeppelin. Most of these bands, besides Nirvana because of the simple fact I’m not a fan, I frequently listen to. Here’s where you can start if you own a shirt with these bands on it but don’t know any music:
Nirvana:
Though much of their music doesn’t speak to my ears, there are a few songs I appreciate. One song in particular is All Apologies. I’m a fan of the guitar part even though it’s quite simple and repetitive. The repetitive strumming is catchy and create a bit of an earworm that makes the song stay with me long after it’s over. The band itself is iconic, notably for opening up the Seattle grunge movement of the early 1990s.
The Beatles:
Very contradictory to the first band, I am a huge fan of The Beatles and feel like this is the recommendation I would be most qualified to make. As much as I would love to recommend full albums, I will stick to one song. My favorite song by the Beatles is Something, a love song off the album Abbey Road, written by the guitarist George Harrison. It’s a slower song with an interlude that picks up the pace a bit towards the middle/end of the song. The Beatles are a notable band due to the advances they made in rock in the 60’s including the additions of layering tracks and creating more in-depth compositions.
Led Zeppelin:
Though I have yet to see Led Zeppelin as often on shirts, I thought it was important to add them to the list. One of my current favorite songs, which just so happens to be by Led Zeppelin, is All My Love. This song is unlike most of their songs, being more of a slow love song rather than a regular rock song like most of their music. Their music is notable due to their mastery of the instruments they played and their strong writing abilities.
