A year ago, Chappell Roan dropped her debut album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess. The album is a huge success and Chappell has since gone from a small musician to a pop artist with 45.5 million monthly listeners on Spotify, making her the 61st most listened to artist in the world.
The hit album includes 14 tracks, including popular singles “HOT TO GO!” and “Red Wine Supernova.”

I’d be genuinely surprised if you haven’t heard of this album yet. Chappell is extremely well known from social media, her tour, and hundreds of millions of streams on her songs. She has a somewhat famous line, “Your favorite artist’s favorite artist”, which is said in reference to Sasha Colby, but it’s definitely true. She has millions of fans at this point, with a fast growing fanbase that she’s built in only a year.
The 26 year old started her career back in 2017, releasing singles such as “School Nights” and “Love Me Anyway”. In 2020, she began to release singles that would later be included in ‘The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess.’
She began to gain fame when she played as an opener for Olivia Rodrigo on her Sour Tour in 2022, and on her GUTS Tour earlier this year.
She’s currently on tour for the album, having played popular music festivals like Coachella and Lollapalooza. She’s also playing various cities across the US in the coming months. She recently won a VMA for best new artist.
The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess is an incredible pop album, and has a 4.9 star rating on Google. Many of her songs are well known, but the album also contains a lot of underrated tracks.
The music itself is fun and full of energy. Chappell’s lyrics often have an interpreted meaning as well. They’re well written, but vague enough that anyone could tie their own meaning to them.
The general theme of the album is love and relationships, embracing femininity and being queer, and being on your own for the first time. Chappell said in her VMA acceptance speech that the award was for “the queer kids growing up in the midwest, this album is for you.”
My personal favorites from the album are “HOT TO GO!”, “My Kink Is Karma” and “Super Graphic Ultra Modern Girl”. They’re all pretty popular, and have a fun beat to them, which means they’re always stuck in my head.
“HOT TO GO!” is one of her most popular. Most people know it, and in the music video, Chappell spells out the letters with her arms. This dance is now super popular, and done at her concerts.
“Super Graphic Ultra Modern Girl“ and “My Kink Is Karma” are both fun songs with good lyrics that I’ve really come to enjoy.
Chappell Roan manages to bring up the mood no matter where she’s being played, and I can’t recommend an album more. There is truly a track for everybody in this incredible album, and if you’ve somehow missed it until now, you should give it a listen.
