If you’ve been paying attention to the people in the high school recently, you’ve probably seen Mrs. Gentile somewhere around the building. She teaches Algebra and Geometry in various places around the school building, but her classroom is upstairs in room 278
She’s new to Victor High School this year, but teaching both freshmen and sophomores, she’s already made a good impression.
Mrs. Gentile and I met up in her classroom after school, which was full of activity. She described that being a new teacher can be pretty chaotic since she’s doing everything for the first time, but that she’s grateful to be teaching after COVID because of how much the education system and schools have changed since then.
She also enjoys the ability to relate to her students being closer to their age, and that she can form her own way of teaching and adjust it for her classes.
Mrs. Gentile found her love of teaching at a young age. She talked about knowing since kindergarten that she enjoyed school and wanted to stay involved in it as an adult. A huge inspiration for her was her fourth grade teacher Mrs. Doyer who motivated her to do well in school and to become a teacher. She then briefly wanted to teach third grade to fifth grade.
Once in high school, Mrs. Gentile also had some inspiring math teachers. She did very well in her math classes, and began to tutor her peers. This solidified that she would become a teacher, but in high school math instead of elementary.
The math teacher is loving her time at Victor so far. She says that her coworkers in the math department are very helpful and resourceful, and that the students have been amazing to work with. She wants to keep building connections with the students here in the coming years, and be able to help students no matter what.
She also wants her students to know that she cares so much about them succeeding in school, and that she’s excited to work with them and teach this year.
