I sat down with Ms. Sarah to look into who she is and what she enjoys. She has worked as a security guard at Victor Central Schools for 3 years. So let’s look into what she says directly, how her career has changed or stayed the same, and what else she does in her free time.
I approached with a question “Why did you choose to be a security guard to help students?” This job allows her to help students in every way possible as she is very kind and understanding.
She has stated “I chose Victor because I was working at St. John Fisher and I wanted to widen my experience with a different age group such as working with high school students”
Ms. Sarah has always been a helper and giver and never takes advantage of anything.
I believe that it is good for Victor Central Schools to have a woman working in a male-dominated career, and students who are women also seem more comfortable talking to her. Let’s see her thoughts on working in a male-dominated career. “I think it is a very rewarding challenge, it is very important to have confidence in yourself, find your voice, and stick up for yourself. Being able to represent women and how strong we are, is what I enjoy the most.”
Ms. Sarah has been inspired by her mother to be in the same career, and growing up she has always looked up to the adults in her family to lead her down the right path. She has always been there and open to listening to any student, and will always help with their needs.
I proceeded to ask about her career goals and she stated, “I want to gain and obtain relationships with the students to be able to let them vent and find a relationship with me. I want every student to feel that they can trust me and to maintain that for the four years they attend High School.”
Even though she is very open and talkative we need to see how she deals with tough situations.
She has always known that she has a kid’s best interest at heart, the problem is going to be short term, and staying calm is the biggest thing. You never want to act out and it is best to have backup so you feel comforted by your surroundings.
Her whole life isn’t only working, right? What does Ms. Sarah enjoy outside of school? “I love the outdoors most, so I enjoy taking weekend trips with my friends, paddle boarding, hiking, and spending time with friends and family.” Getting outside and living your life to the fullest is what means the most.
Ms. Sarah has always made a point to give life advice and help the students most in any situation. She has always been there for comfort and enjoys her job of helping students get out of any uncomfortable situations.
