When people think of Mr. Vistocco the first thing that comes to mind is a PE teacher. Although that is true, that is one of the many things Mr. Vistocco is.
Mr. Vistocco has been teaching for 10 years and has spent 9 of those 10 years teaching Physical Education at Victor. Before his teaching career began, he attended Victor Senior High School. He decided to come back to Victor to coach and teach. He is excited and honored to be back, striving to make the school a better place.
During his first year teaching at Victor, the athletic director approached him and asked him to start a unified sports program for Victor Senior High School. He did, and he didn’t expect the program to take off the way it did.
In the beginning, the program only offered a basketball team, having a total of 9 kids on it. The program rapidly developed into a club while adding a unified bowling team. Now, over 30 kids are involved with the club and the competitive sports teams throughout the year.
The program has been a great success. “It’s very important for students to get involved in opportunities like this because of the connections students are able to make with students with disabilities and to see that although we might have differences, we are all still teenagers and high school students. After all, everyone wants to be a part of something bigger than themselves.”
In the future, Mr. Vistocco hopes to get more sports teams added to the program.
As well as a teacher and coach, Mr. Vistocco is a big part of our community. His father owns the local ice cream store, Molly V’s, a business that Mr. Vistocco often participates in.
He says, “Connecting with the students and building relationships is my main goal.” He believes, “bringing the ice cream truck to the games is very important and helps break the gap between the community, school, and students.”
Molly V’s also gives students the opportunity to work at a local family-owned business. “The special thing about Victor is that we have a community that loves our school district and is centered around our schools, unlike others.”
Our school is extremely lucky to have a teacher like Mr. Vistocco on our staff, continuing to help our school thrive and grow.
