If you have seen a new face around the main office or have a last name beginning with A-Cl, you have probably seen or heard from Ms. Yuasa, the new student counselor.
I first contacted Ms.Yuasa over the summer when I had some unfinished changes that needed to be made in my schedule. In response to my email she was very kind and proactive. So far she has been nothing but helpful and I am glad to have her.
When given the assignment to do a staff feature about someone you wanted to learn more about, Ms. Yuasa immediately came to mind. I sat down with her last week and here is what I learned:
She is a California girl born and raised, and throughout high school she ran cross country and track while being a very high achieving student. When it came to deciding where she wanted to go to college, it was between a school close to home, and one all the way across the country.
She chose to continue her academic and athletic career at University Of Rochester. At U of R, she majored in audio music engineering and earned her bachelor in science of that, while also running Division III cross country and track.
Outside of work she still enjoys running and participated in both half and full marathons. “I find running both rewarding and enjoyable physically, but it’s also very therapeutic.”
She also finds interest in cooking, baking, and spending time with loved ones.
Something that I found very unique and cute is that she has two pets. One being a Shiba Inu dog named Tofu, and also a bearded dragon named Sydney. Her pets seem very near and dear to her heart and I got to see pictures of them in her office.
When asked what she is most passionate about she said helping others, which led us perfectly into her career of being a school counselor. As I mentioned earlier, she went to U of R for a very different major but ultimately ended up finding a job that she really enjoys.
Previously, she has worked in the Rochester City School District making this her 1st year at Victor but 3rd as a school counselor. She expressed how her initial impressions of Victor were how unique the campus was, that everyone was together on the same big plot of land. She also said that when she was first hired, everyone from students, parents, and staff were very welcoming.
Now that she is in the swing of things, she is having a great time. She says her favorite part of her job is helping others and getting to watch her students grow throughout the year and throughout their time in high school.
“If I could give my students one piece of advice, as corny as it may sound, it is that everything will work out the way it is supposed to,” she says. Within her own life she has seen this, and believes that all her students have their own path and it will all work out.
