Mr. Adams is a substitute teacher at Victor Senior High School who always brings joy to any class he subs in. He has been here around for 2 years and loves subbing for English classes, is a local actor in downtown Rochester, and is a horror movie enthusiast.
Mr. Adams is a big fan of subbing for English classes. This is because he has a background in English studies. He has read most of the books that we read here at Victor, he loves Socratic Seminars, and adores when we act out the books. He says that unlike Bio or Algebra classes, in English he can actually teach the class and knows what he’s talking about.
Mr. Adams also is an actor downtown in Rochester. He has been in many different plays, including Death of a Salesman, A Streetcar Named Desire, and Julius Caesar. However, his favorite play that he acted in was one known as Glenngarry Glenn Ross because he played the lead character, and he felt as if he really got into the character during his experience with this play. As an actor, he faces many challenges. He says that acting in a play is a mental battle with himself. A fear that he won’t be good on stage is a huge concern of his. With time, that fear certainly has calmed down, yet it still exists.
His job is not as easy as one might think. According to him “You have to balance your responsibilities as a sub and your personal life”. He claims that some challenges he faces on a daily basis include bringing energy to every single class, but he tries to get over that by just having a conversation with his students at the time.
He says that he wishes he could’ve become a full time teacher, but had other interests that would’ve interfered with the career. However, he says that being a substitute teacher because he gets to work when he wants, and can teach all classes with one job. Not having to work full time with children is a relief to him, however. He feels that children are so energetic compared to what he can handle, especially in the morning. However, he tries his best to keep up and stay with the class.
Mr. Adams claims to be a huge horror movie enthusiast. “Although it might be cliche, my personal favorite horror movie is The Shining.” He feels a connection to this movie, being one of the first he saw and was actually scary, while fitting into his favorite genres: slasher, paranormal activity, and ghostly/otherworldly possessions.
When he isn’t acting or subbing, he often finds himself watching movies, sleeping, or just straight up doing nothing. As a youngster, he loved the feeling of going out late and partying with his friends. But with time, he has let go of that life and spends his free time at home instead, in peace and quiet doing what he loves.
