As every high schooler knows, we learn better when we feel like teachers care about who we are, not just what they teach. For me and most of my readers the teacher that most exemplifies that is Mrs. Deitz.
The passion Mrs. Deitz has for her students as well as the subject goes to show the importance of dedicated teachers. She hopes to build connections with her students and make sure they understand she’s there for them even beyond the content of the math. Being a teacher has always been in her nature, especially helping others learn.
As Mrs. Dietz became a mother, she realized the content being taught is not the end all be all; it made her more empathetic to students to understand not everyone is going to have an awesome day. Ensuring that her lessons did not get too lecture-heavy, and making her lessons interactive and engaging always help students to love walking into her class.
Why is Mrs. Dietz always so calm and understanding? Her comfort (besides Mrs. Harris) is the gym, she says “finding an outlet to her ‘me time’ keeps her going.”
I think we can all agree that having an understanding teacher makes being a student 10 times easier. That is Mrs. Dietz, her consistent support helps so many students have their best foot forward and makes going to a teacher easier.
During this interview, she explained to me when students are able to communicate with her things may be going on but still showing up and trying makes her so happy.
Walking into math 1st period algebra should have been a horrible experience but because I had the wonderful Mrs. Dietz I looked forward to that class every day. Teachers uplifting you every day are the ones that make being a student enjoyable.
