Mr Hanna and Mr Wolf the two middle school tech ed teachers that are honestly two of the most truthful and funny teachers you will meet. They come to school from their children and families, to their students that they are always ready to help with anything.
This is Mr. Hanna’s 23rd year teaching here at Victor and he also was a student teacher here. Mr. Wolf has been teaching here for 15th year at Victor but 21st year overall teaching.
The reason Mr. Wolf decided to be a tech teacher was because his father was one, his fathers uncle was also a tech teacher and Mr. Wolf also worked as a camp counselor for five years, and found he liked working with kids. Both his parents and all of his aunts were teachers as well, which is the reason that sparked his decisionto become a tech teacher.
Mr. Hanna decided he wanted to be a teacher because his mom was a teacher and in high school he started to realize what he liked and he found enjoyment in tech which encouraged him to teach tech.
At home Mr. Wolf tries his best to include his kids in his at home projects but his kids know not to turn on any tools and they knew t
o ask if it was safe if they can do certain things. He also encourages his kids to build things in their free time or together, such as a lacrosse stick by making a solid ash one then making two laminated ones in different colors to see if it would work (it didn’t) and they are trying to figure out the next best way.
Mr. Hanna has a three and a half year old son and tries to include him in his projects as much as possible. The example he used was when he isusing the backpack to blow the leaves off the driveway, baby Noah also needs a backpack to blow the leaves off the driveway as well.
Mr. Wolf doesn’t think being a tech teacher sparks questions for his family about technology related things but he chooses to share things he learns with his family. Although his family doesn’t ask questions about technology they do ask him to build them things in his free time. Mr. Hanna on the other hand thinks he is forcing technology onto his family.
Additionally a way Mr. Hanna finds success when he teaches something in class, doesn’t make a student do it outside the class but the next day they come back and they do something on their own with the same software program and are excited to show him.
They agreed that NY state sets the requirements on technology only being a required course in the middle school, but they think everyone could benefit from taking the class. Although they think it’s beneficial, they also find that if a student is interested in other subjects and has other hobbies they should have the choice to take the class they are most interested in, and by making it a requirement it does not allow them to make the choice.
Mr. Wolf also summarized how in high school you are able to see what you are interested in and want to pursue, as well as how it is good to have maturity in high school to make those decisions.
Also Mr. Hanna added that maybe in 9th grade it should be required but also he added how schools should give students as many opportunities and options as possible so they can really find what they enjoy.
Both of them agree that since they have never been a core class teacher they don’t know whether it is harder or easier than being a tech teacher because they are different, but Mr. Hanna said they have more fun being tech teachers rather than teaching a different class.
Mr. Hanna and Mr. Wolf do so much for their students and always want them to do their best. And although this is an inside joke, Happy Birthday Mr. Wolf!
