Mrs. Harris is a math teacher for Victor Schools going on her 15th year in the building teaching 2 sections of Ap pre calc, 2 sections of honors geometry, and math support. Initially Mrs. Harris wanted to become an accountant but instead she decided she wanted to be a teacher.
In her junior year of high school, “I had a tutoring opportunity and I loved it” Mrs. Harris said. She immediately knew she wanted to be a teacher. Right out of college she went to be a student teacher at this building with Mrs. Mandell and that year she got a job as a math teacher.
Mrs. Harris is a special kind of teacher as she takes pride in connecting and building relationships with her students. She really enjoys connecting with students and learning about their personal lives out of school. “It’s all a part of the process,” she says. Mrs. Harris always sets a high bar for her students and she believes that everyone can do it as long as you put the effort in, get your work done and try your best. She’s always there to support as much as possible.
Mrs. Harris’s suggestions for upcoming college students is to just stay focused and make sure you know what path you wanna go on before you apply for your classes and work towards your end goal, or what you want to do after college.
One of Mrs. Harris’s biggest pet peeves are students being absent and then not making up the work for the day that they missed and then making excuses because of it such as,”oh I didn’t learn that.”
I also asked Mrs. Harris how it was working with Mr. Mauro, her dad, and Mr. Mauro, her brother and she laughed. She said it was fun, since her brother is not in the school anymore he’s in the intermediate. She didn’t see him that often though as they didn’t really work together but she loved working with her dad as she said she had a great time working with him.
