After three years of teaching, all three of those being at Victor, Ms. Paolicelli is a ninth grade English teacher who teaches a section of English support and is the GSA and Diversity club advisor.
While always knowing she wanted to be a teacher because both of her parents were one, Ms. Paolicelli originally thought she was going to be a math teacher while going through college. But, if she could be anything she would be an environmental or civil engineer to help better serve our planet.
While looking for a job after college she wanted to be an English teacher and also help with theater. “I was really big into theater and so I thought that my big extra curricular thing was going to be theater,” She says. “I applied to a lot of schools because they were like ‘oh, we are looking for an English teacher with Theater experience’ and Victor wound up giving me the job first.”
After getting the job at Victor she found that Victor already had a well spoken for theater department and was scrambling for something else to do. While looking for something else she could do she found the GSA, Gender And Sexuality Alliance, and Diversity Club.
“I was in my high school’s GSA because a lot of my friends were in the LGBT community and I wanted to show my support.” She got into advocacy along the way after joining and it spread from just focusing on the LGBTQ community to all people.
Ms. Paolicelli also mentions how important it is for her to make a safe space and to be a safe person for her students. “It’s just been great to be able to see my impact on these students and knowing I get to be a safe person for them…hopefully”
Ms. Paolicelli is an amazing teacher and club advisor. She constantly pushes for all her students to feel safe in her classroom, in club meetings, and the school building as a whole which she does with flying colors.
