When All The Things That Could Go Wrong, Go Right

Two years after his first album, Johnny Orlando released his most awaited album All The Things That Could Go Wrong on August 19th, 2022. The success was a shock to this young artist, but this album helped relate to teens or anyone who is struggling with anxiety, dating, social media, and other experiences, better than anyone else.

At the age of 19, this Canadian artist has been singing and performing songs for 11 years and has gained millions of followers on all of his platforms. Orlando started singing and performing covers of songs such as “Stitches” by Shawn Mendes which gave him his rise to fame.

With 1.9 billion global streams, an EP, and two albums he is nothing short of successful.

The album consists of 12 songs, two of which are minute long interludes-goodbye4now and so it begins- that give us a point of view into Johnny Orlando’s mind while dealing with a certain situation.

These short songs keep the listeners entertained by creating a feeling of being in a daze and stressed out, all while keeping the melody low and steady, which gives the opportunity to successfully transition right into the next song.

The album is stacked with hits such as Someone Will Love You Better (11 million streams, 4.3m views), Fun Out of It (1 million streams, 882k views), You’re Just Drunk (2.4m views), Blur (2.5m views), Leave the Light On (837k views) and Coping(1621) (116k views via Youtube) and have gained traction with their music videos, that are all featured on the album. These fan-favorite hit singles were a big success because the melodies are upbeat and the lyrics are catchy.

In his summer hit Blur, he sings “Woke up on the rooftop, laying next to you / Don’t know how we got here, baby, what a view / I just let it blur blur blur blur” which gives the song a fun and go-with-the-flow feeling.

In the middle of the album is the only song where Orlando collaborated with someone. Fun Out of It featuring BENEE is a very adventurous song with an upbeat melody that is fit for a party.

The song’s somewhat sad meaning about knowing a relationship won’t last contrasts with the high beats that give you the mindset to just have fun while it lasts.

Songs like Everything I Hate About You, Coping(1621), and All The Things That Could Go Wrong give the feeling of being stuck, afraid to change, and describes having anxiety. While my favorite out of the three is Everything I Hate About You, all three songs have a very steady tempo and low beat, but are equally as beautiful as the others.

The ending song, All The Things That Could Go Wrong, is the perfect outro that sets the stage for the meaning of the entire album. It symbolizes worrying about what will happen in the future while you’re in a relationship.

Orlando sings “If this is the happiest I’ve ever been, why do I feel so afraid of it?”, emphasizing the feeling of being stuck in your own mind and worrying about if and when everything will fall apart.

The album was a major hit which highlighted and expressed certain feelings while growing up and changing. Overall, I give this pop album a 9/10.
