What it takes to be true crime obsessed

What+it+takes+to+be+true+crime+obsessed

Over these past few months I have been listening to the podcast True Crime Obsessed. True Crime Obsessed recaps true crime documentaries all while incorporating humor and sass, as well as the garbage bell. Which is a bell they ring when someone they don’t like comes up or gets positive feedback.

The hosts of the podcast are Patrick Hinds and Gillian Pensavalle. Their first episode was released on May 12th of 2017 about a true crime documentary The Imposter. The Imposter is a documentary about a young man in Spain who is claiming to be the family’s 16-year-old son who has been missing for 3 years.

Hinds and Pensavalle listen to the documentary while commentating it. They both make an effort in understanding and expressing the emotions the family must have been dealing with while finding out a person is posing as their missing son.

Then, they introduce Nancy Fisher, an FBI agent who wanted to interview the man who was impersonating their son, yet was struggling on how to tell the family. One thing I like about this podcast is that they make the victims voices heard while also focusing on the victims and their feelings. They call out mistakes that were made when the cases were active all while creating a comfortable space for their listeners.

An episode that I would recommend from the podcast is Three Identical Strangers. This episode covers the infamous case of the triplets that were separated at birth and adopted by different families.

The episode sticks out to me because it is different from most of their episodes. Most episodes are crime centered and seeing an episode that didn’t revolve around true crime caught my eye.

Hinds has an adopted daughter and is connected with the story. Most true crime podcasts I’ve listened to don’t usually talk about their emotions or experiences, so listening to a true crime podcast that does was interesting. You get to hear the emotional story about the triplets while also hearing the emotions from the host which I really enjoyed.
