Mr. Brett Lamb, a new teacher at Victor Senior High School, is one of the latest teachers on the block! Starting last year, he began at our school because his daughter (now in 10th grade) convinced him to be a teacher here, and he took the opportunity.
Mr. Lamb attended Victor School, starting his third-grade year. Participating in varsity hockey, he maintained his grades and eventually became the teacher we know today, helping his students balance their athletic and academic careers. And, this was what he always wanted to do.
“My dad was a teacher for over 30 years, so I knew pretty quickly what I wanted. The other thing was an NHL player, and I think my daughter has a better chance of that than I do,” Lamb stated. Even with his passion for hockey, as well as golfing and being active in general, he knew from a young age that he wanted to follow in his father’s footsteps.

After graduating from Victor, Mr. Lamb went to Niagara University for Education and initially studied and majored in Social Studies, then in special education at the end of 4 years. Afterward, he went to Nazareth College for his masters in Literacy.
However, he is very social, and if you also need someone to talk to, he’s a great option.
If you see him in the hall and want to talk to him, feel free to approach him. He is very approachable and says that he is always there if students ever need someone to talk to. “I’m always at the front of the classroom door when they walk in. So, I connect with the kids in my class, but I also connect with students who just walk by.”
Just because he is a new teacher does not mean he isn’t adapted to the school again. He is a valued teacher of the yearbook club, which is always fantastic every year. Although it must be hard to relearn the school and the block scheduling, he picked it back up and is grooving right through work.
Speaking of block schedules, Mr. Lamb has a bit of mixed feelings with them: “The classes are very long… the only downside is that students don’t have a chance to have as many classes or electives, so the experience they get is kind of pigeonhole to what they’re able to fit in a schedule.”
On the other hand, the classes are good because you get more time with the classes you pick and the teachers. So, there are both ups and downs to the scheduling.
Overall, Mr. Lamb is a fantastic teacher. He interacts with teachers, including his previous “buddy teacher”, Mrs. Artnitz, and co-teacher, Mr. Kurnath. And of course, with students in general, including myself. Although I may not visit him as often as I would like, I see him frequently.
So, if you ever need a good teacher that you can go to for the good, bad, and weird, go to the man who drinks hot sauce out of the bottle. And no, I’m not kidding. Perhaps share your unique quirks with him as well.
