Broken Edge: A General Review

Via+TREBUCHET+and+Fast+Travel+Games
Via TREBUCHET and Fast Travel Games

Broken Edge is a virtual reality one-on-one sword fighting game developed by TREBUCHET and published by Fast Travel Games, which you can purchase on Steam, PSVR2, and Quest for only $14.99.  In Broken Edge, you and another player duel it out to see who can break the other person’s weapon, leaving them defenseless.

When your swords collide, they take damage depending on how close to the hilt they were hit.  In addition to this, by using a specific motion or stance, depending on the class you are playing as, you can awaken your character’s blade, dealing more damage and allowing you to win before depleting all your opponents health.

In addition to this, you also have 3 special techniques.  The Edge Breaker, which deals maximum awakened damage if you connect with it while protecting your blade from damage, the Ward, which can protect you from awakened attacks, and the Second Wind, which allows you to regrow your blade after it has been destroyed.

In addition to these, once your sword is out of health and gets small enough, you can use a Critical Parry, allowing you to fully regrow your sword without using your Second Wind.  All that to say, these game mechanics reward you for sticking with it and learning the game to become better. This, along with the 9 different classes to choose from, can keep you entertained for a long time.

There are a few options on how to play Broken Edge.  There’s the Dojo, where you can learn how to play all the classes, solo mode, where you fight against a computer opponent, and online against other people.  Online, you can either make a private lobby that requires you to input a code to join, or play ranked against others for points in public matches.

I find this game to perform very well.  The combat works well and is enjoyable, and the number of classes allow for many different play styles.  I also like that the game rewards you for becoming skilled and playing it enough to understand how it works.  The game also doesn’t lag much in my experience, which is always good.

I also enjoy that the game is continuing to be updated, keeping players interested.  The only things I really would like to see added to this game is a larger amount of solo content and possibly another way to play with other people, as there currently are not a lot of options for setting up matches to play.

In conclusion, Broken Edge is an enjoyable sword fighting experience that I would recommend that you try out if you own a VR headset and enjoy sword fighting games.
