A Young Math Wizard

It didn’t take Kyle Ingalls long to become a student favorite in Victor.

His unique humor and distinguished personality makes it hard not to like Ingalls. He always looks to help anyone and always stays after school for kids if they’re struggling. Kyle Ingalls is also one of the smartest people in the entire school, solving problems that require a calculator all in his head. Ingalls didn’t always think he was going to be a teacher though.

Ingalls grew up in Rochester and attended Webster Thomas High School where he was naturally gifted in all subjects. Taking multiple APs, he only got one score below a five. Ingalls decided to attend the University of Rochester because it is cheap to go due to his father being a doctor for the university.

This is when he found his love for teaching.

He combined his extensive love for math to make some money as a hustle. He tutored kids, and realized that he was good at it. To him, teaching someone math gives him the same feeling of when you show a friend a song you love.

He first started in Rush Henrietta, then went to Honeoye, and finally landed at Victor, a dream school for him. In his first year teaching he taught AP Statistics, Pre-Calculus, and Algebra 2. In AP Statistics, students of his quickly realized this is someone who you can call more than just a teacher.

However, Ingalls is not a perfect teacher, and he knows that. That is why he learns from many other teachers at Victor.

Mrs. Knapp, Mrs. Harris, and Mr. Merritt is the three that he gains the best advice from.

Only being 26, for Ingalls, many aspects of school stayed the same. Two things that stood out to him that changed since he graduated were:

  1. The phone usage is out of control, and it’s nowhere near his age group’s level.

  1. The wizards on the new Calculators are essentially like cheating because of how much hands-on work is taken care of.

Towards the end of his first year at Victor, Ingalls had a child with his wife, whom he met in high school and married in 2020 during the pandemic. Ingalls named his son Nathan because it was the only one both him and his wife could agree on. He complains that he doesn’t have any more free time to play golf, but he loves that his time is being taken up by his son.

Being a new dad, being a favorite teacher, and being an almost scratch golfer, there isn’t a lot of things Mr. Ingalls cannot do.

Being so young  leaves a question of what type of Magic Mr. Ingalls can do in his tenure at Victor Senior High.
