The streaming site Netflix is well known for its unbelievable true crime stories, but a story called “Unknown Number” has been exploding all over the internet. Unknown Number is known for its incredible story and overwhelming sadness.
I personally love true crime shows and the plot twists that many documentaries have. Some of my family members suggested this documentary, which was also recommended by many people on the internet because of its amazing plot twists.
It shows viewers how much someone’s involvement in technology can harm others. Ross M. Dinerstein and Rebecca Evans produced this newly streamed documentary. These producers attempted to convey the true story to the viewers in this documentary. This documentary was released on August 29, 2025. The documentary lasts for an hour and thirty-two minutes. The directors did a good job describing the whole story within the time of the documentary.
“Unknown number” covers a disturbing cyberbullying and catfishing true story of a case that consumed a small town in Michigan. This story focuses on a young girl named Lauryn and her boyfriend, Owen. When this all happened, Lauryn and Owen were only 13 years old.
Lauryn and Owen were harassed over the internet, getting texts from an unknown number.

Created: Netflix
The story illustrates how the internet can harm people and that not all aspects of the internet are positive. As you watch the documentary, they hint at who is behind the unknown number; at the end, they will shock viewers with the truth.
This documentary primarily uses interviews with the primary subjects of the case. It focuses on their perspectives on what they went through.
It is full of suspense and features interviews with the victims’ stories. The production’s strength is its shocking and compelling plot twists throughout the documentary. Some of the weaknesses are that it lacks psychological insight into the person behind the unknown number and why they committed the act.
This documentary is fascinating and excels at storytelling. If you love true crime and unexpected endings, then you’ll love this Netflix documentary.
