The 2024 US National Election had one of the highest voter turnouts in the last century. With primaries, debates, and candidates’ requests for funds being broadcasted to every corner of the country, it’s hard to miss it. After all, the federal election impacts our lives significantly, controlling social security, health care, civil protections, and industry regulations. Although these “big ticket” items are often talked about, how often do we talk about the condition of the roads we take to work, the maintenance of local parks, and the safety of our neighbors? Most importantly, who has control over these topics, and why don’t we talk about them as much as we talk about federal issues?
In Victor, the vast majority of the voting age population could recognize and name our current president in DC, more than 250 miles away from us. Take the same people and ask them about our local government, located less than a mile away from anywhere in the village, and the story becomes very different. Victor residents are uneducated about their local government, and the same applies to most towns and cities in the country.
Knowing that I, too, lack knowledge about the town, I took it upon myself to educate myself and my fellow Victor residents by sitting down with the mayor.
The current mayor of Victor, Sean McAdoo, took office in April 2025 after running unopposed, and will serve a two year term in office. He’s a well-qualified candidate and his career was focused on giving back to the community, having served as the fire chief and been a part of the Board of Trustees prior to becoming mayor. This raw interview shares Mayor McAdoo’s perspective on the village’s issues and gives insight on his vibrant personality.
