On April 19th, a furious match for the Spring Quidditch Cup was set to happen. Hufflepuff vs. Gryffindor and Slytherin, the battle of the best. Unfortunately the conjoined team never showed up leaving Hufflepuff to be the automatic champions. A friendly game was still played afterwards with the Hufflepuff team being led by senior captains: Tyler Ferraro (chaser), Ben Gensiejewski (chaser), and Sean McCarthy (keeper), with the other team being led by Jake Loughlin (chaser) and Johnny Mazzola (beater).

Before the match began, Ben and Tyler decided that if they didn’t win, they would not accept themselves as champions, so the game for them was high stakes. The matchup was high scoring with Hufflepuff leading the whole time but the opposing team (unnamed) always trailing close behind. The connection between the two Hufflepuff chasers was enough to ward off their opponent’s offense led by Loughlin, giving them a 40 point lead before the snitch was caught by Meili Shepard, giving Hufflepuff the win, 240 to 150.

Hufflepuff immediately sprang into rejoice with Ferraro falling to the ground, thanking his friends and family. Gensiejewski joined him joyously embracing each other. The duo left the gym amongst their teammates with chants of “Hufflepuff, Hufflepuff, Hufflepuff” before joining back with the real Hufflepuff team (who won originally by forfeit). The squad took a picture with their trophy and left, not only as members of a league or team, but as champions.

While the fall season is always packed, remember that Quidditch continues with a season in the spring as well! If you have time before a practice, don’t play a spring sport, or a sport at all, come out next year and play! Quidditch will kick off again in the fall during the 2023-2024 school year. It’s been one of my favorite activities throughout all of high school and is open to accept anyone to fly around on a Nimbus 2000, have a good time, and make new friends. If you haven’t played or signed up for a team but didn’t find the time to participate, I wouldn’t let your time at Victor go by without playing at least once.
