In the quirky FOX sitcom, “New Girl”, Zooey Deschanel’s Jessica Day moves in with three single guys following a difficult breakup. Nick, the witty underachiever, Winston, the charismatic ex-athlete and lover of cats, and Schmidt, the egotistical, narcissistic, and slightly controlling type who is obsessive about his social status. Also included is Cece, Jess’s best friend. Together they make one dysfunctional family that deals with professional and personal issues. Along with being one of the best comedies currently available, “New Girl” offers priceless life lessons that teach us all how to live better lives.

  • Don’t worry about people who suck

You can waste your time worrying over those people, or you can simply acknowledge that certain people suck and keep going and live your life without those people.

Don’t put off pursuing your goals

It might take some time to identify what it is that you are passionate about, but once you find it, you owe it to yourself to pursue it. There is no better moment than now. Even though Nick is the epitome of laziness, he eventually followed his dreams of becoming a writer and made the very popular series, “The Pepperwood Chronicles”.

  • Don’t bottle up your emotions

Bottling up your emotions is probably the worst way to cope. Jessica Day once talked about the fact that people who keep it all inside get old, and they get sad, and they get weird.

  • During a job interview, the “chit-chat” is the interview

While you’re preparing for your interview don’t only focus on the career points but come up with some small conversation starters. Lots of interviews happen in the show and the best way to score the job is by chatting up your interviewer.

  • It’s okay to not have your life together in your 30s

As long as you’re trying, there is no time limit. Winston was a “pro” basketball player in Latvia before he got a terrible ankle injury. Then he was a nanny, then a sports radio host, then he became a police officer and found his true passion.

  • Being single is perfectly fine

You have to learn to love yourself before you can love someone else. When Jess was single during season 6 she definitely found herself and her inner strength and ultimately became the best version of herself that she could be.

  • Be true to yourself

You can’t worry about pleasing other people. I think all the characters have demonstrated being true to themselves in one way or another and are now living their best lives.
